Simple Figures

Illustration

A personal challenge in color and shading limitation

In my illustrations, I noticed a tendency to continue adding shading and texture until I got too close to realism.

I wanted to stretch my style a bit, so I gave myself a set of drawing challenges that limited the color, shading, and textures that I could use in a single figure.

In this initial challenge, I limited myself to a certain red, blue, and black, allowing myself to use one variation opacity of each for shading.

In my second challenge, I allowed myself texture, but cut back on the color.

Now I was limited to dark blue, light blue, and black, with the addition of two forms of texture.

Overall, it was an enjoyable project and allowed me to step outside my comfort zone of illustration and try a new style.
